WRF stops writing to output files without error

Any issues with the actual running of the WRF.

WRF stops writing to output files without error

Hello all,

Since I updated from WRF V3.9.1.1 to WRF V4.1.1 I sometimes have a strange behaviour of wrf.exe. Sometimes it stops writing to the NetCDF output files and the log files without any error message. If this happens the WRF processes (MPI parallelized) are still running and consuming full CPU power, but they don't stop anymore. It looks like they were hanging. When I'm running the model with the same input data (GFS) and the same configuration, the error occurs at the same model time. However, when I change something at the configuration - the problem sometimes disappears in this run or occurs at another model time. I also switched to the debug mode of WRF, but I don't see any systematic when this error occurs.

WRF is compiled with the Intel Compiler 18.0 (MPI) and I'm running it on AWS (Amazon Linux 2). The configuration is not very special and often guided by best practices, but I'm using adaptive time stepping. However, I never saw any problems with this option in WRF V3.9.1.1. At the moment, I'm testing the model without adaptive time stepping. I'm using the ARW Core.

Best, Michael
