WRF-CLM spinup & computational expense

I wondered if anyone can point me toward descriptions of the CLM carbon cycle setup in the coupled WRF-CLM (sf_surface_physics = 5 in namelist.input)?

Running uncoupled to WRF, the satellite phenology version of CLM needs a roughly 50 model year spinup, while the fully prognostic carbon cycle versions require order 1000 model years.

These spinup times would be computationally expensive for the coupled WRF-CLM, and I'm not finding much of anything in the literature that addresses this.

Any help appreciated!
