Horizontal advection for a new variable

Postby Christina » Mon Jan 28, 2019 2:32 pm

Hi all,

for the last months I've spent time implementing a scheme in WRF that describes the process of drifting snow. Therefore I created three new modules in WRF-Chem and made use of the chem array to calculate the concentration of the airborne snowparticles.

Now, as a last step, I want to implement an advection equation for the saltation process (that means the movement of snowparticles near the ground).

I thought about using the chem array again for this horizontal advection, but the problem is, that the chem array also calculates the vertical advection (what I don't what).

I had a look in the the scalar advection code in dyn_em/module_em.F and dyn_em/solve_em.F, and thought about using the "h_tendency". But actually I don't really understand that code. So, nothing has been successful until now.

Does any of you know how to turn off the vertical advection for a chem scalar or has ever tried to implement an advection equation in WRF?

If you need more information, just ask. I'm thankful for any advice or tips.

Thank you
Christina
