Job opportunity for a Weather Scientist in Bristol, UK

Founded by experienced professionals from the aerospace and defence sector, our extended in-house team includes experts in meteorology, engineering, geographical information systems, renewable energy and physical sciences, from the industrial and academic sectors.

A job opportunity has recently opened to work on the ongoing development of our NWP-based products. The successful candidate will work within our R&D team, focusing on the application of WRF and related models to analyse weather patterns on individual locations and regional areas.

The main activities related to the job will include:
- Conduct research to gather new knowledge and methodologies for weather data applications
- Participate to the development of new products based on WRF
- Prepare, set up and run WRF simulations to validate methodologies and products
- Contribute to the development and optimisation of new routines and pipelines, e.g. pre- and post-processing of reanalysis/forecasting data
- Participate to the configuration, optimization and day-to-day running of simulations for various products

Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. Weather Science; Atmospheric Physics) OR:
- MSc in a relevant field (e.g. Physics; Maths; Engineering) AND 2-4 years of work experience in a related field (e.g. meteorological services, applied weather sciences)

Experience and skills:
- Robust experience with NWP models and datasets, in particular with WRF-ARW and related models
- Experience with processing, analysis and visualization of weather and other data; experience with large datasets in various formats (HDF, netCDF, GRIB)
- Strong programming/scripting skills for data analysis in a scientific context; familiar with Unix-based operating systems and with parallel computing
- Ability to work and solve problems independently and as part of a team

Other:
- Eligible to work in the UK
- May be required to travel and work away from office for short periods of time
