RRTMK Bug?

Postby gopalanh » Mon Mar 18, 2019 9:36 pm

Hi,
I was testing the latest github version of WRF (4.0.3). I was curious to compare the differences between RRTMG and RRTMK. I ran a simulation and noticed that the direct short-wave radiation is always zero from RRTMK. I have enclosed the header of output from a modified TSLIST below.

The last four columns are SWDIR, SWDNI, SWDIF and SWDOWN. The total downward short-wave radiation SWDOWN seems to be predicted fine. I first assumed it may be related to the choice of schemes. I changed the Microphysics and Cumulus schemes for RRTMK simulations and noticed that the direct radiation is always zero. I looked into the source-code for RRTMK and am not able to exactly pin-point the reason for this error.
