Hi, everyone
I get a problem.
Today I tried to run WRFDA with Radiance data, and I just followed the User's Guide.
Downloaded two bufr files, converted into little endian, and tried to use them.
But the program da_wrfvar.exe was stuck in the ' Reading radiance 1b data from amsua.bufr ' line for more than one hour, and still, but no error occured. Like this:

I'm using Gfortran , under Ubuntu 10.04.
And the WRF Var Known Problems said:
WRF Var Version 3.1 : Known Problems and Fixes
unblock and reblock radiance bufr data with gfortran (Posted 4/9/09)

Problem:
On linux with gfortran compiler, the radiance bufr data unblocked and reblocked by cwordsh might be unable to be read by WRF-Var.

Solution:

I don't know what's the meaning of " the radiance bufr data unblocked and reblocked by cwordsh".
And I installed the Version 3.3 not 3.1.
Anyone could help me?

Download the cwordsh package from the following link

http://www.nco.ncep.noaa.gov/sib/decode ... c/cwordsh/

Then run your amsu data through that package.

Reason for doing so is explained in the website.

But I'm not so clear about the relationship between the ssrc.exe utility and cwordsh utility.
Both do the same thing? Should I use ssrc.exe to convert the big endian to little endian and use cwordsh to reblock? Or just use cwordsh?
As I tried in some ways, it wasn't going any further, still.

I just took a look at the User's Guide of WRFV3.1, it mentioned the cwordsh utility.
And in the WRFV3.3, the Guide uses ssrc instead.
So I'm thinking one of these two utilities is enough.
But neither works well.

I have not used the ssrc utility.

The cwordsh utility should work fine if you download your AMSU data from NCAR.

You are not alone.
I let it run for one night but nothing out.
I have a friend that was successfully run it using version 3.2.1. Strange enough that I could not run it using either vesions 3.1 3.2 3.2.1 and 3.3
I use Fedora 14, Gfortran and gcc
The testing data of 3.3 has gdas data probably made on IBM computer, so it must be in big endian, and fortran blocked
To use it under Linux it must be unblocked using cwordsh, change it to little-endian using ssrc.exe , and then reblocked using cwordsh...This is my idea.
So let's try it and let informed.

I'm wondering whether you have solved this problem or not.
Following your idea, "standard input: unexpected short record 1" showed out while using ssrc.exe.

Hi, I use WRFDA_V3.2.1 to run the radiance data assimilation,and I can successfully complete it.
I use ifort ,when I set 'USE_CRTM_KMATRIX=true' in my namelist.input,the the run time is about 20 minutes,but when I set 'USE_CRTM_KMATRIX=false',the run time will reached about 40 minutes.I don't know if this tips will hlep you. Good luck!
