Nesting issues in WPS

Lambert vS Mercator

Postby jaimito_85 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 10:44 am

Hello, i'd like to ask a question.
I am planning to run simulations in a really small and squared domain. I'm not gonna use a nested domain. Since the side of my squared domain is small I guess I won't have projection problems, anyway, does anyone know whether or not Lambert projection is better than Mercator for this case?
Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Regardless of having nested domains or not, a general rule of thumb is to use polar for high latitudes, Lambert for mid latitudes, Mercator for low latitudes and lat-lon when you run global simulations (have a look at the "Running the WPS" section of this document: http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/docs/user_guide_V3/users_guide_chap3.htm)

As personal experience, I worked with Mercator in an area around 19ºN, and with Lambert on an area around 55ºN.
