Then I wonder that the variable SWDOWN per each timestep is

Hi.

I did running WRFV3.7.1 with RRTMG sw/lw radiation schemes.

And the out file time interval is 60min(1hour).

I want to change the unit of SWDOWN which is "DOWNWARD SHORT WAVE FLUX AT GROUND SURFACE (W m-2) to J m-2.

The SWDOWN per each timestep is sum of downward short wave flux during one hour, right?

Then I wonder that the variable SWDOWN per each timestep is same as Wh m-2 .

Is there anyone who know about this?

Hi,

By my knowledge every variable value in the output file is instantaneous (aside the ones with acc in their name and the rain and snow which are accumulation from simulation start). So the swdown you see is the radiation at the time of the output. Since its unit is Wm-2 it means Js-1m-2. It is not advised to multiply this value over a longer time period. I would sum up outputs of 10 or 15 minutes but not more, and it depends on the weather.

Cheers,
