Opening too many files (NDOWN in Katrina Case)

Dear all,
I have followed the instruction of Online tutorial for practices, and I encounter a problem when using the ndown executable. After "./ndown.exe", the processes started, but ended with an error:

Hi,
I received a similar error message today, and I noted that it was partly because I had deleted the ptoprequested in the original namelist.
And, I also noted that for some reason, while runnning the ndown.exe, it had changed my original wrfout file from the coarser domain as well when getting the error message.
But when there is no error message while running ndown.exe, the wrfout file does not change.
cheers
ps
